Five Minutes To The Seedier Side Of Cyber Space

At a recent workshop on internet safety in Montgomery, a police officer signed into a chat room as a 13 year old girl and in less than five minutes had received several explicit solicitations from adults.  The lesson is all too clear.  Parents must monitor their kids online to keep them safe.  There are many ways to do so:  for example, put your kids’ computer in the living room, use SnoopStick (our choice, of course), talk to your kids about what to reveal and not to reveal online, and limit computer usage to times when a parent is around.  For more suggestions, check out “Tips and Tools For Parents” on online safety.
